Verna Ritchie

Verna served overseas during the Second World War with the Canadian Red Cross Corps as a Red Cross Aide. She enlisted in this uniformed, disciplined group of volunteers who were specially trained for wartime service. The Corps was created in 1940, and the it offered women a chance to train and give voluntary service in one of four sectors: transportation, nursing, food administration, or office administration. Vera served as a Red Cross Aide, travelling overseas in 1944 to care for the wounded. Vera was interviewed by the Toronto Star at the age of 91 in 2008. The link follows:
