The Unknown Soldier
The Unknown Soldier is symbolic of untold warriors who perished and on countless fields of battle.
He lived. He loved and was loved. He dreamed dreams for his future, his family, his community and his country. In the distance erupted the thundering darkness of war. he placed his dreams aside and responded in duty. In devotion to God and Country he hurled himself into the jaws of war.
The fatal blast. The killing bullet. Broken he fell in that killing filed. Unknown in his final resting place, he was embraced only by the grieving earth.
His family back home, mother, father, perhaps wife, children, brothers, sisters and friends were bereft, bearing the enduring ache of the unknown.
So we salute the Unknown Soldier of every war. He is numbered with the faithful, brave and true.
“For greater love has no man than this. That he lay down his life for his friends.”
The Unknown Soldier. Unknown to us. Yet known to God.
We remember and we give thanks.
