Roy Mesure
Roy Mesure first served in the Boys Service as a Sea Cadet where he trained in Uxbridge, England in Middlesex. At 16, he transferred to the Royal Navy in 1943 where he served until 1946. He served on the HMS Brocklesby, a Hunt Class Escort Destroyer of the British Navy for his entire career mostly in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and North Seas. In 1944 Roy’s British flotilla joined an American one whose job was to assist in the preparations for the opening of a second front along the south of France by regaining control of the major southern ports to facilitate the supply chain. Because of Roy’s early training in Morse Code with Sea Cadets, his job aboard ship was that of a telegraphist. He received messages relating to German troop movement, allowing ships to coordinate their land bombardments. At the end of the war, Roy’s destroyer sailed ahead of the troop ships through the minefields on their way back to the United States and Canada. We thank Roy for his service.
