Robert Louis Jones
Robert Louis Jones’ served with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He enlisted in 1942 in London, England at the age of 19, and then traveled to Canada to train as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He learned to fly the Tiger Moth in Neepawa, Manitoba, the Harvard in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and received his wings on parade in 1943. He served as a Flight Sergeant in London, England and in India.
He had recollections of memorable training experiences including when he collapsed the landing gear while training on the Harvard, after which his C.O was not amused; and when he was practice flying a Hurricane, buzzing between trees.
He recalls being very fortunate when he was next in line to fly the Vultee Vengeance. After getting sick, another pilot had to take over the training exercise, and after a fuel problem, the plane crashed, killing the pilot. We Will Remember Them
