Lloyd W. Reid

Lloyd Wilson Reid enlisted for service in the Canadian Army at Connaught, Ontario, May 1942 at the age of 26.

He was stationed at Connaught, Sussex, Dartmouth; and further served in North Africa, and in the Italian Campaign.

During the Italian Campaign and out on a scouting mission, October 3, 1943 with author Farley Mowat and Lt. Col Bert Kennedy, the trio were ambushed, and Lloyd was captured and taken prisoner of war. He was transferred to 3 different POW camps in Germany, prior to his arrival at Stalag 2D, a labour camp, where there were over 1400 Canadian prisoners of war being held. Lloyd was released by Russian Forces in January 1945.

Lloyd was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the War Medal 1939-1945.
