Kenneth A. Lardner

Kenneth enlisted along with 3 school buddies, for the Canadian Army in February 1950 in Toronto, ON at 22 years of age. He completed basic training in Petawawa, which consisted of fitness drills, route marches, obstacle and confidence courses, field training, weapons instruction, and teamwork exercises. He was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington USA for six months to receive further training prior to heading to South Korea. Kenneth remained in South Korea for 2 years. After the first year, soldiers were given the option to return home, but Kenneth decided to remain for another year. He was assigned to the front lines as a regular soldier, but was transferred to REME detail (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) upon discovery that he was a licensed mechanic. He then contributed by working on jeeps and tanks close by the front lines.

Ken was awarded the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Ken relayed via family that he felt that it was an honour to serve his country.
