John J.H. Matthews
John James Hayward Matthews left Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of three, and was raised in England. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War from December 4, 1939 to December 13, 1946 in London, England, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.
Interesting to note is that John was the first Canadian to join the Canadian Army in England. His family is very proud of his military number, which reflects his desire to serve his country. That number is U-1. We Will Remember Them
