Edward Armitage Rick - 348802
Edward Rick was a machinist living in Montreal, Quebec, when he attested for service in the First World War. Travelling upon the Empress of Britain, Edward arrived in England on May 5, 1916, and continued on to France 5 months later. For the majority of his service overseas in England and France, Edward was a Gunner with the 12th Canadian Field Artillery where he provided field artillery support as part of the 1st Canadian Divisional Artillery. He remained in France for almost a year.
Edward suffered from the affects of gas poisoning, being gassed in August 1917….potentially mustard gas, as the Germans unleashed mustard gas in the summer of 1917. After suffering respiratory related illnesses, Edward was discharged on December 29, 1918.
