Donald enlisted for service in the Second World War with the Governor General Horse Guards at Camp Borden, when he was 19 years of age. He served overseas in England, Italy and in the Netherlands, and was tasked with jobs such as: being in charge of the Firehall, message delivery on motorcycle, uniforms and artillery distribution.
