Maj (ret’d)Corneliu Chisu, CD, P.Eng

Major (ret’d) Chisu is a graduate of Electrical Engineering (B.Eng. Polytechnic University of Bucharest, M.Eng, University of Toronto) Engineering Physics Specialty and of the Militia Staff Course (PMSC) - Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College.

He began his military career in 1972, as an Air Defence Radar Operations officer in Romania. He joined the Canadian Forces as a reservist in May 1990. He was recognised as a respected mentor and he always enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with others. He demonstrated a superior performance on many career courses. His dedication and perseverance in serving in the Canadian forces led to a component transfer to the Regular Force in September 2003 from where he retired in 2009. He also served in the Cadet Corps from where he retired in 2014.

In his years in CF Regular Force; he has been extremely active and demonstrated superior, leadership, technical and project management skills. He served 15 months on overseas deployments and had three career postings. These postings have included positions as the 32 CBG G3 Plans, LFCA TC Meaford as a Construction Engineering Officer and finally as 2 ASG Engineer in Petawawa as 2 ASG/LFCA Engineering Officer.

 He deployed to Bosnia in 2004 where he assumed key roles as the Multinational Task Force (NorthWest) Task Force Engineer and later as the Technical Authority and Maintenance Engineer. Working within those multinational forces, his personal determination, technical expertise and knowledge of seven languages proved invaluable to mission success numerous times. In 2007, he deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan as the ESU Requirements Officer providing infrastructure management support. He was promoted to Major in May 2008.

 In addition to his military and engineer career, his public service has included positions as Senior Trade Analyst with the Italian Trade Commission and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova. He was appointed by the Province of Ontario as a member of the Building Materials Evaluation Commission (BMEC) and of the College of Medical Radiation Technologists Ontario (CMRTO). He also served as the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Vice President elect and Member of Parliament for Pickering Scarborough East where he served as member of the National Defence, Veterans and Official Languages Committees, executive Member of the Canada –NATO and Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association. He was also President of the Canada Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria parliamentary friendship groups.

For his service to Canada and Internationally Maj Chisu was awarded the:

Canadian Forces Decoration CD and (CD1);

The NATO medal for Balkan Operations

The Canadian Peacekeeper Medal

The Afghanistan General Campaign Star, 2007

The Commemorative Medal for the Golden and Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II;

Civic Merit Medal Republic of Moldova 2012;

Knight Cross “Civic Merit” Republic of Hungary 2014;

Officer Cross “Civic Merit” Republic of Romania 2016.
