Bruce Alexander Hogarth - C6568

Bruce Alexander Hogarth enlisted for service in the Second World War at Campbellford, Ontario in 1940 with the Midland Regiment. He served in Campbellford; St. John N.B. in defense of ship yards; Niagara-on-the-Lake, in defense of the Welland Canal; Prince Rupert B.C., and the Queen Charlotte Islands.

In 1944, Bruce became part of the CANLOAN program, when officers were loaned from the Canadian Army to serve in British Units; in his case serving with 1/6th Battalion, Queen’s Own Regiment, and the 9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. He was the 20th Canadian Officer, of 673, on loan to the British - CDN20.

He boarded the H.M.S. Andes in Halifax, shipping overseas, and arrived in Liverpool England on April 4, 1944. On June 5, 1944, Bruce boarded his troopship at Tiburbury, England, to sail across the channel. He arrived on Gold Beach D-Day +1.

Bruce was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and German Star, the Defence of Britain Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with clasp for overseas service.
