Alexander McKee
Alexander (Alec) McKee was born in 1923 in Canada (Toronto Area). He enlisted with the R.C.A. as a Gunner (Gnr) rank alongside his cousin Gavin Crawford. (In fact, their Military Service ID numbers were only one digit apart). They were close friends before and during the war (see attached newspaper article dated November 15, 1943). Tragically, Alexander’s cousin Gavin died by his side during battle on July 27, 1944. Gavin is buried at Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, near Juno Beach in France.
On June 1, 1945, Alexander married Rebecca (Ruby) Wallace in Glasgow, Scotland. Following the war, Alexander and Ruby started a family and returned to Canada to the Toronto area. Alexander became a father to a son and two daughters, and a grandfather to four grandchildren. He worked as a mail carrier with Canada Post, and enjoyed golfing. Alexander died at the age of 66 and is remembered fondly by his family and friends.
